Job Oriented Youths Skills Development Project - 2012/2013

We had the opportunity of implementing successfully in the Ratnapura District the Education for Knowledge Society Project (EKSP) conducted by the Ministry of Education with financial assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). At this instance the Chamber was able to conclude very successfully 51 training programmes during the years 2012 and 2013.

Under this project for teachers in Government schools 397 teachers were trained in two programmes of International Computer Driving License (ICDL) and International Pedagogical ICT (IPICT) training. Under the 15 days Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programmes (ASAP) for school leavers and Applied in Front Office Operations programmes, 806 unemployed youths concluded their training.

Through this project unemployed youths had an opportunity to follow these courses of professional level free of charge. Those youths who concluded the front office operations programme were given training in tourist hotels. A large number of youths who concluded these training programmes successfully were able to secure training and permanent jobs in the business establishments owned by the members of our Chamber.


New branch office of Sabaragamuwa Chamber was opened in Embilipitiya

The Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce & Industry opened a branch office at Embilipitiya on December 22, 2011 at 9.21 a.m. in auspicious time. The office was opened by Mr. Udayanath Perera the proprietor of Embilipitiya Stores, Embilipitiya with participation of the Operations Officer of International Finance Corporation (IFC) Mr. Dushmantha Jayasinghe & President of SCCI Mr. Dharshaka Rupasinghe & Board of Directors, Members in Embilipitiya.

The purpose is to serve the business people in Embilipitiya area as it is demanded for more services with the new developments in the area.

The activities of Sabaragamuwa Business School also commenced with connected to the Chamber. The entrepreneurs in Embilipitiya area thanked the SCCI is opening the new branch in Embilipitiya and giving fullest corporation.


Techno-Net Sabaragamuwa 2009 - Ratnapura

New Technology & Trade Exhibition @ 26th to 28th December 2009

The Techno-Net Sabaragamuwa 2009 Exhibition held on 26th – 28th December 2009 at Town Hall, Ratnapura was a great success 45 companies & SME's participated and displayed a wide variety of IT accessories, IT products and services, SME's Products, Machineries, Business Development Services in 60 stalls. More than 3000 SME representatives and entrepreneurs visited the exhibition. The event was a great success, not in terms of money, but making a good awareness on It related Products and Services.

Almost all exhibitors rated the exhibition as an excellent opportunity where they could establish good contacts and promote their product / services. Visitor’s turnout beyond the expectation. Almost all visitors the SCCI team has spoken with during the exhibition have commended Techno-Net Sabaragamuwa 2009 Exhibition has been an excellent showcase of SME development.


SME Banking Road Show - 2008 @ Ratnapura

Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and International Finance Corporation (IFC) are organizing a SME Banking Road Show in Ratnapura, to facilitate access to finance for local Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Road Show, which is part of a series, provided a unique opportunity for local small and medium enterprises to meet with banks that are involved in financing smaller businesses. Participants were included the Commercial Bank, DFCC Bank, Hatton National Bank, NDB Bank, and Sampath Bank. To expand the scope and relevance of the Road Show, the Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Export Development Board (EDB), Industrial Development Board (IDB) and Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) also participated.


ISURUMAGA 2008 – Machinery and New Technology Exhibition for SME Development

Enterprise development center (EDC), the professional arm of the Sabaragamuwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) organized the ISURUMAGA 2008, new technology & machinery Exhibition in collaboration with International Finance Corporation (IFC) & Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. With a regional level showcase of technologies, products and services all gathered under one convenient roof at ISURUMAGA 2008 in Embilipitiya. This was timely an event for rural, micro and SME sector which was given a new thrust by the government of Sri Lanka for improving their competitiveness.

The concept of ISURUMAGA was initiated almost nine years back and SCCI was conducted several ISURUMAGA Exhibitions within nine years in Ratnapura. At the beginning of 2008 the board of directors of SCCI came in to a decision to conduct the ISURUMAGA 2008 exhibition for the benefit of rural industrialists who needs technology for their industry expansion.
